Narration Conducive To Books The Rat Prince

A good retelling usually stays as close to the original source material as possible and polishes the story with an updated sheen for a new audience to appreciate. The best retellings, though, fearlessly divert from the original while deftly preserving its essence. They keep you on your toes with unexpected twists and they take fun tangents into unexplored nooks that deepen the world and enrich its characters.

The Rat Prince falls firmly in the latter category as Bridget Hodder takes the familiar Cinderella story and adds a unique second perspective: Char, the Prince of the Rats. From the get-go, we know Cinderella’s path will take her from her struggles at home with her stepmother to a magical night at the castle ball with the prince, but as the alternating chapters explore Char, his feelings for Cinderella, and his responsibilities as ruler of the lovable rat kingdom hidden within Cinderella’s house, the story takes on a whole new life of its own. It plays with gaps in our knowledge (who knows what the human prince is really like?), develops compelling backgrounds for all the supporting characters and gives an even more intense significance to the midnight countdown.

And at the center of it all, is a lovely relationship between Cinderella and Prince Char filled with fun banter, swoony revelations and their gradual understanding of each other’s noblest human and rat qualities. It transforms the Cinderella tale from pleasant wish fulfillment into something with real heart, and the entire second half is impossible to read without grinning like a fool and curling up into a ball of delight. Apologies to Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm and Disney– this version is my headcanon now.

Judgment Regarding Books The Rat Prince
THE RAT PRINCE is a delicious read! The author delights with the traditional elements of the Cinderella tale alongside a new and creative story with fresh perspectives. I loved the new, more empowered cinderella and the inclusion of the m/m couple, Sir Tompkin and Lord Bluestone. The writing is fantastic - classic but not in any way stilted - and there are many fun and silly moments. Romance, intrigue, fantasy, humor - this book has it all!

***I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of THE RAT PRINCE in exchange for an honest review.***On first glance, one might imagine that this book is for children, and that it is nothing more than a retelling of the classic Cinderella story. One would be sorely mistaken on both counts. I have deep respect for the depth of the characters and the complexity of the world Hodder created in The Rat Prince. It feels less like a work of fancy than an historical novel, despite the fact that it is

I've spent the last few days in the enchanting world of The Rat Prince by Bridget Hodder. I was fortunate to read an ARC of this captivating fairy tale. All I knew before reading was that the book reimagined the Cinderella story. I'm glad I didn't learn more about it before diving in, because there were quite a few twists that I didn't see coming. The story is told through dual narratives of Cinderella, or Lady Rose as she was formerly known, and Char, the Rat Prince. I appreciated the author's

I was privileged to read this book before its release date and I devoured it in one sitting, a rare occurrence for me since I usually only read before bed and it's five minutes and I'm asleep. This one kept me up late, and was definitely worth the sleep lost. The scene for the story is one with which we are all familiar, Cinderella and Prince Charming. But the author has re-imagined the tale to craft a new hero and a new definition of heroism. The characters are three-dimensional and sympathetic,
