Explanation Toward Books When Strangers Marry (Only Vallerands #1)

Dear Reader,

Nearly a decade ago, I published my first novel with Avon Books, Only in Your Arms. Since then, romance has changed-and so have I—so I decided to give the book a makeover—and a new title, When Strangers Marry. I have two reasons for changing the title. First, it is in keeping with the new spirit of the book; second, no one—including my own mother—found the original one memorable!

In When Strangers Marry, I had a great time rediscovering the story of Maximilien Vallerand and his stolen bride, Lysette. The promise of this handsome, though mysterious, man's love proves irresistable to her, but she doesn't know the secrets he hides.

I hope you will enjoy revisiting the Vallerand family, or perhaps meeting them for the first time. And, as always thank you for your support and encouragement, as we escape together into the magical world of romance novels.

Wishing you love and happiness,

Lisa

Discuss Containing Books When Strangers Marry (Only Vallerands #1)
3.5 starsI have to admit i had many reservations about reading this book, even though am LK auto buyer.!I was gladly surprised however, when i read this book. As i often say, i love romance about married couples. How they make it work is always an appeal for me.The book worked its charms in various aspects besides the romance. For starters, the setting: "America" 1804. The setting is quite important in this book, since it takes part of the plot. I just love how Lisa manages to take us thru a time

I really enjoyed this book. Set in New Orleans shortly after Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory from France, it is unusual in that the torrid love affair (and the majority of the book) occurs after h/h are married (yeah, to each other). The backcover description is actually a letter from Kleypas to readers indicating that it's a rewrite of her first novel, Only in Your Arms. I never read the original story but this one is well-paced with good plot twists and colorful characters.

After reading this book right after Kleypas 'Someone To Watch Over Me' I could definitely tell these two were some of her earlier books. Not necessarily bad, just lacking some of the polish of her later books. To me it also seemed to try and have a little bit of a mystery or 'who-did-it' sort of vibe like 'Someone To Watch Over Me' had as well. I loved the Louisiana setting, being a native myself. I also really liked the hero and how the heroine brought him and his young sons closer together. It

My first Kleypas book and definitely not my last one. This book is a nod to the 80's/90's body rippers/virgin heroines etc. The hero is the typical hero for this writing and the heroine is one who tries to break the rules but is restricted to an extentHas this book stood the test of time? Today's readers probably wouldn't enjoy this if they are fan of the sweet yet sexy contemporaries. Those who have an appreciation for romances of the past will love this book. It's an entertaining read and

The thing that stands out most about this book is that the hero and heroine actually liked each other throughout the vast majority of the book. Amazing, isnt it?!? Her: Lysette Kersaint, lifelong Natchez resident, is 20 and has a nasty stepfather who has squandered all his money and wants to marry her off to an older, wealthy man who disgusts Lysette. Him: Max is 35, a widower from New Orleans who is suspected of murdering his first wife, who coincidentally had been having an affair with Lysette

One of my favourite HR books by Kleypas, this hasnt lost any of its charm over the years and remains an engrossing read. Unlike most HR books this is set in New Orleans, within the framework of its rigid Creole society which makes a great substitute for London. Kleypas brings the mores and rules of etiquette in Creole society to life on the page. Both main characters were more than likeable. Lysette is independent and strong, not allowing herself to be crushed by societal and family

I made it to a 190 pages. I get this thing is a relic of its time but it was rewritten in 2002 and it still reads like a Catherine Coulter book written in the early 90's or later 80's with some Woodiwiss thrown in. Not that those are bad...okay, they sort of are....but it's not what I was expecting with a Kleypas book and with the whole he man owning women bit I was about doen with it. Also the hero of course has a mistress he's still seeing even after he married the main character. But that's
