Well. This was a pleasant little children's book. On the copy I read there was a quote from Literary Review 'The kind of accomplishment to show dressers that there's more to life than Harry Potter'. Really?! God. Harry Potter is far from the best thing ever but what a stupid statement. This book was average at best. Perhaps there was something lost in translation. It didn't quite deliver. It left me full but unsatisfied. Maybe it's because it's a children's book, they often leave me feeling like

When Alex's father, John, finds possible treatment for his mom in Texas, Alex and his two sisters are told they'll be sent to stay with their grandmothers. Alex's sisters will stay with their mom's mother, Clara, the normal grandmother, but Alex is to go to stay with Kate, his dad's mother. She is NOT a nurturer. Alex is furious with the decision, saying that Clara will cook and take care of the children, but Kate is excentric.



I appreciate what these books are doing to help with my Spanish ability. The main characters are fun and interesting, though the sequel doesn't give much opportunity for character development, but mostly rehashes the development they went through in the first book. That's often hard to avoid with sequels. I enjoyed reading the book even while I was conscious of its shortcomings. Most of the secondary characters in the book are flat and don't meet the potential Allende gave them. This is

I actually read this book in Spanish and I just couldn't put it down. At first I didn't know it was a second book from a series and had no clue it was her youth books, and yet I found it refreshing. The story of Nadia and Alexander and how their adventures take place was really nice, with insight into lives we couldn't imagine with very little delicacy but a huge impact. Definitely, a good read.

The book is very good. I couldn't put it down. My only complaint is that the villain was very predictable. Her storyline was so incredibly similar to Dr. Omayra Torres story in the first book that I recognized her as the specialist immediately.
