Fullmetal Alchemist (3-in-1 Edition), Vol. 1 (Fullmetal Alchemist: Omnibus #1)
R to L (Japanese Style), for audience T.
Contains Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of Fullmetal Alchemist!
In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical ""auto-mail"" limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother's bodies...the legendary Philosopher's Stone.
Alchemy: the mystical power to alter the natural world, somewhere between magic, art and science. When two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, dabbled in these powers to grant their dearest wish, one of them lost an arm and leg...and the other became nothing but a soul locked into a body of living iron. Now they are agents of the government, slaves of the military-alchemical complex, using their unique powers to obey their orders...even to kill. But their powers aren't unique. The world crawls with evil alchemists. And in pursuit of the ultimate alchemical treasure, the Philosopher's Stone, their enemies are even more ruthless than they are...
Clearly one of those WHY HAVEN'T I READ THIS SOONER cases !!!I love everything about this ! The characters, the drawings, the story, the humor, the heartbreak, the alchemy, the villains, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G !
I had seen Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but the place I was watching it didn't have the ending. Argh! I discovered my library had the series, (well books 4 through 20-something). Happy, happy, joy, joy! They didn't have Books 1-3. Well, I figured I'd try for an ILL (Interlibrary Loan) and maybe they'd get to me before I had to return the rest of the series. Instead, a friend came through and found an omnibus with volumes 1-3! Yay! Now this has nothing to do with my review of the 3 volumes,

Volume 1 - Overall good character development and pacing. I liked how it jumped right into the plot and explained the backstory as it went rather than front loading everything at the start. The plot was fast-paced and engaging, while still allowing for insight into the characters motivations and personalities. The snippets of adventures in the life of the Elric brothers were enjoyable and fun to follow along; however, I do wish there was a bit more of a connecting thread between the four
3.6 - Dont get me wrong, I really enjoyed this!Maybe its because im new to manga but a lot of the dialogue seemed very artificial and not really sure if i enjoy the kawaii part of it haha
Im not going to rate this right now because I havent read enough manga to properly rate. But, Im not sure Ive had this much fun reading a story in a while. I cant wait to pick up the rest of the series. The first three volumes seem like a great kickoff to the series.Having never read a manga before, Im glad I picked this up first. It was just really great.
First manga I ever read. I actually watched FMA Brotherhood first and loved it so much I read the manga right after. So if youre thinking about reading it, well you should just read it. You wont be disappointed.

Wouldnt it be smarter not to announce to this religious man that youre Edward Elric and go undercover?Rosé why???Alchemy really does cost an arm and a leg.Whoa Edward can turn his arm into a Kagune! There goes the philosophers stone.Alright so theres Lust and Gluttony. I guess more of the Seven Deadly Sins will be coming up. Is Lust the Elric brothers mother? Is that what they summoned?Alphonse: Um, Im a civilian. Im not a state anything.Inn Keeper: Oh, thats fine then! Come back on in!Edward:Clearly one of those WHY HAVEN'T I READ THIS SOONER cases !!!I love everything about this !
