Narration In Favor Of Books Land of Black Gold (Tintin #15)

Rather a dilatory and loosely-plotted entry in the series, which to its credit the book wryly jokes about. Captain haddock turns up out of the blue at one point to rescue Tintin, but each attempt on his part to explain the strange circumstances that brought him there in the nick of time is cut off; finally, he storms off in the penultimate panel, huffing that at any rate, the story is not going to be told by HIM now. We end with Abdullah painting the words "The End" on a wall, a simultaneous act of graffiti and a meta moment of conclusion. This book also introduces Abdullah, the extremely irritating son of a sheik, who is some plot importance but arguably the most unlikable figure in the recurring Tintin cast. Fortunately, he has very few appearances overall in the series. Somewhat noteworthy, perhaps, for its focus on oil as the potential cause of global conflict, but nevertheless politically pretty naive about the subject. There are many typical instances of slapstick humour, and of course the whole thing is lovely to look at, but is nevertheless not a highlight of the series.

Judge About Books Land of Black Gold (Tintin #15)
Another great adventure from Herge'. This time, Tintin is investigating a petrol quality problem - a quality problem so severe that explosions occur. Those explosions are so severe that cars are crashing and airplanes are grounded - and with the world about to go to war, this could affect the war before it begins. Smelling sabotage, Tintin is ready for action, with, unfortunately, the Thompson twins in his wake. Captain Haddock is also helping.... as much as he ever can. Before he's solved it,

Although funny, I felt this adventure is not as well developed as the previous ones... Somehow, a bit more confusing or foggy... Still, a lot of fun!Maria Carmo,Lisbon, 20 January 2015.

while i can appreciate the political aspect of this story that would have mostly gone over my head as a kid, land of black gold has never been one of my favourites. maybe it's the absence of captain haddock or calculus, but in comparison to the rest of hergé's output, this is one of the weaker tintin stories.

my childhood. my precious!

Another good adventure - and while it's not one of the best, I still think it's worth it just to see Thompson and Tompson's crazy transformation :D

A fun one this one. While still typical adventure and intrigue, has more of a wider backdrop with suggestions of impending war, which add to the tension. Less of Haddock in this one, and I find that slightly detracts from the story as I do prefer it when he is there, but allows Tintin to have more time getting into and out of trouble on his own, without Haddock making it worse. Thompson twins have more of an appearance in this one, adding their own style of humour to the adventure. Other

When Thomson and Thompson's car goes BOOM! A problem with the petrol is discovered which sends Tintin to the Middle East to search for clues.
