I read most of this in Czech and I got the English translation for Christmas. I think the translator didn't make the book as good in English as it is in Czech, somehow. This book is a great compilation of old class Czech humor, allowing its readers to share the feeling of the greatest era ever. Saturnin is a great personality creating to its master various situations. If you like humor and wit I highly recommend this book for you to read.

It was very well translated- the text a pleasure to read- with a dry humour throughout. However, what this book lacked was a sense of suspense: of making the reader turn the pages ever faster in order to discover more, whether that be the plot or the writing. The chapters were quite self-contained, and I think the whole would make an excellent television series.I did enjoy the
Read French translation. Lovely Czech humour.
